Marie Colvin

I don't write blog entries very often, so today I went to a talk by Nicola Morgan at the Society of Authors - all about blogging. She began blogging out of anger, she said, and has been an obsessive blogger ever since. Well, now I'm angry: during her talk, one of my medical colleagues emailed me the dreadful news that journalist Marie Colvin was dead.

Marie had been one of our patients at the Fleet Street Clinic for several years. We specialise in looking after journalists, and had seen Marie just a couple of weeks earlier - we knew she was heading for Syria, but assignments like that were a normal part of her routine, nothing to be more concerned about than usual. We're still tryng to come to terms with the news that one of our most respected foreign correspondents has been pointlessly murdered while simply doing her job. Deepest condolences to all who were close to her, and everyone at the Sunday Times.
