Since the beginning of January, we have been extremely busy with flu vaccination. Vaccine shortages elsewhere have meant that our drop-in service has been running at full stretch, with patients attending from all over the UK. Many of them are people who belong to the traditional NHS high-risk groups. We’ve also seen large numbers of pregnant women. With all the attention being focused on flu vaccine, it is easy to forget about the benefits of early treatment with anti-viral drugs, for people of all ages who actually develop symptoms of flu.  In fact, the Department of Health has recently had to remind GPs to consider this option more often.

We have become so conditioned over the years to thinking of flu and other viral illnesses as being untreatable. Yet there is clear evidence from earlier phases of the swine flu pandemic...

 

We've been working hard behind the scenes to upgrade our premises. Refurbishment of our basement area is almost complete, including new Men's and Ladies' loos. Next will be two new consulting rooms on our upper floors, which will improve our capacity and reduce waiting times when things get busy.
